Hi, KHelms.
Good news – Kevin recorded a lesson on that tune during his last session. I’ll bump that one up on the production list…stay tuned…

Yep, Ted. He did record a different performance and lesson tutorials for the melody…I may have to record a lesson teaching some of the harmony parts I was playing…good stuff!!

Hi again, Daross.
That’s a fun tune…it feels very Canadian to me…I might run that one by Patti for her next session…we’re looking at having her return to the studio later this year to record a bunch more lessons.
Thx for the heads up!

Hi all fellow fiddlers!!!!
When Niall was in the studio, we took a break to play through this great Trad Irish air. I’ll get this video up here on the site once we have Niall’s lesson on Danny Boy published…but in the mean time, check out this video of us playing the tune:
Peace, and enjoy the tune!!!

Hi, Martha.
Jerusalem Ridge is in Am…I might look at a waltz in the key of C to give the round a bit of a lift…Country Waltz and Roxanne’s are two good old-time choices…
Or you might go with a G key waltz…maybe Westphalia?
Best of luck!!

Hi, Sylvia.
Good thought: Bluegrass & Cape Breton are at the top of my wish list right now, but Kevin suggested a Cajun player the last time he was in-studio…so it’s at least on my radar! Thx for the input!

Howdy, Gwichin.
Good thought. We have used a mobile-friendly web design so the majority of the site features should work on mobile devices, but I know that a stand-alone mobile app could potentially provide additional mobile functionality…that said, the current focus is to build up the library of lessons…
I will table this idea for the next…[Read more]

Agreed, KHelms/Malton. Good thread, for sure.
I checked with Hanneke…she confirmed that Harald wrote “Port Orford” after playing a concert there with her a few years back…so there is a connection!!
Side note – Hanneke, Peter (my brother who does much of the guitar on this site), and I all played a concert in Port Orford back in…[Read more]

Hi, Malton.
Thanks for these suggestions. I have to say, Harald is the real deal. I wonder if the title “Port Orford” is in relation to Hanneke?? It’s the name of her home town out here in Oregon…one way or the other, that guy can both compose and play.
Anyhow, I really appreciate the links…I’m not sure when we’ll bring on an instructor…[Read more]

Checked these artists out, khelms. Good suggestions.
There is so much good fiddle music out there I’ve never even heard…I’ll keep this style/these artists in mind going forward. Really enjoyed Mikael Marin/Väsen. Good stuff all round.

Cool, Blossom 👍🏻👍🏻
Yep, I may have to do some studying and work up my chopping….what a cool technique, and I am truly a beginner in this area!!
Cool also on the bodhran thing as well….I was really intrigued by Niall’s backup tracks for Sporting Paddy…his bodhran work is really nice…more backing tracks from Niall on some (not all) of h…[Read more]

Thx for the feedback, Ringlets.
Yep – we’re always looking at ways to improve the site…glad to hear you find value in the guitar tracks. I use them myself when I’m practicing to clear off the mental cobwebs. 👍🏻👍🏻
Fiddle on! More tunes/lessons in the works!

Howdy, Khelms.
I admit I’m a bit under the rock when it comes to Scandinavian fiddlers…Hanneke has mentioned a few times that this area of the world has a strong fiddle community/style….
Who should I be listening to? Who are the drivers in this genera?? Any suggestions on artists I should consider for addition to the FV instruction t…[Read more]

Casey Willis replied to the topic Waterfall, reversing falls? in the forum Fiddling Techniques and Playing Advice 7 years ago
Hi, PCviola.
I can recall Hanneke talking about a reverse waterfall a couple of times in tune tutorials…she doesn’t cover that in the waterfall technique lesson, but occasionally she will adapt that technique to end up on a different note.
You might run into folks who would consider that non-Trad, but Scottish fiddling is still a living l…[Read more]

Casey Willis replied to the topic Choice of rosin? in the forum Fiddle Setup and Repair 7 years ago
Hi, Daross…
I used to rosin once to twice a week when I was playing shows daily…these days, I don’t play much, so I don’t rosin much…if your playing a couple of hours a day, you’ll find that your rosin will need to be refreshed fairly frequently.
My rule of thumb – soft/wispy tone means I should re-apply (this is also a good indic…[Read more]
