Hi, Guillaume.
I had to check to see if Megan didn’t already record this…she plays a great version.
Consider it added to our running request list, sir.

Hi, Roger.
I’ve added Roanoke to our running request list. Megan may choose to record it in her next sesson. It’s definitely a classic.

Hi, Philip.
I’ve added Pike County Breakdown to our running request list…perhaps Megan will choose to record it in her next session.
All the best!

Casey Willis replied to the topic A/B Looping and Speed Adjustments- What do you guys think??? in the forum Fiddle Lesson Forum 3 weeks, 3 days ago
Hi, Antonvon.
I’ve pinged the coding folks to see if we can’t come up with a listing of hot keys to which you can map your pedal.

Hi, Patti.
Yeah – unfortunately, I’m still not seeing a slow-downer enabled playback module to embed in the site. Email the info@fiddlevideo.com, and I’m sure we can send you a few guitar tracks to use an off-line tool as George suggests.
All the best!

Sounds like the same Baggs bridge pickup, Louis.
Another newer Baggs preamp many professional accoustic guitar/mando/fiddle/etc. players are using is the VoicePrint DI. From what I gather, you record yourself playing on an iphone app, and the device emulates your specific accoustic sound once you plug in. I like the idea, but from what I can…[Read more]

Oh that makes more sense now, Antonvon. Great idea. I believe the hot keys you would want to map would be “I” for setting the in point, “O” for setting the out point, and the space bar for play…but you might just have to test via keyboard. Best of luck!

Good advice here, George and Robert.
Fiddle is such a tough instrument to amp. I generally go with a mic, but still occasionally use the piezo/mic setup you describe from the other thread, George. The only thing I’d add to that is when I do choose to do a loud gig and just use the LR Baggs Piezo bridge, I also use a Baggs Venue pre-amp.

Casey Willis replied to the topic Reaching the G string and holding the fiddle in the forum Fiddling Techniques and Playing Advice 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Hi, Steve.
George has a good point. Having a good shoulder rest which raises the G string side of the instrument is a solid recommendation. I use Wolf Forte Secondo rests.
I’d also recommend doing a bunch of stretching before working on some G/D string exercises. You might also check out my technique tutorial on vibrato to see how I…[Read more]

Hi, Antonvon.
Are you asking if there’s a bluetooth looping pedal that would work with setting in/out points for the videos hosted on this site? That’s something I’ve never even considered, and I’m not sure what technology is out there that connects to a computer & would control a video player. Or are you asking about a pedal for live…[Read more]

Casey Willis replied to the topic Left hand thumb soreness in the forum Unfiddling 6 months ago
Hi, Joseph. It may be a pressure thing. You shouldn’t be gripping too hard – perhaps that’s the root cause? Also, make sure there is a little space between the bottom of the neck and the joint between your thumb and first finger.
Finally, I’d recommend doing 3+ minutes of hand stretching before and after you play…that could help, sir.

Hi, Kitegal/George.
George – you hit the nail on the head…it’s been a busy summer, coupled with backup scheduling issues. I do very much look forward to getting things back to production speed, hopefully soon. I know you’re not alone in wanting to see new tunes published…

Casey Willis replied to the topic Fiddle Contest Song Recommendations in the forum General Fiddle Forum Topics 8 months, 1 week ago
Hi, Krissa. Good for you for tackling the contest environment. Contests are great because they are good motivators…and they force you to decide on a specific set of tunes, notes, and bowings.
But as far as what specific tunes you should pick, I’d say start with what you know and bucket your bag of tunes into the three categories. Keep in…[Read more]

Norman Blake composed Cairo Waltz. This fact was unclear to me when I recorded the lesson, but many folks, Jay Ungar included, have set me straight. So I repeat; Cairo Waltz is a Norman Blake Composition.

Kevin Burke is a wealth of knowledge, and if you haven’t yet seen all of his technique tutorials, I would recommend checking them out: https://www.fiddlevideo.com/category/fiddle-technique-fiddle-lessons/irish-fiddling-techniqes/. I suspect that the bowing answers you seek are lightly hidden.
