Hi Casey,
That’s super helpful, thank you. I definitely need to slow down a little (I blame the excitement!), the metronome will be useful for that.
I’m definitely lucky to have a fair amount of spare time at the moment, and filling it with fiddle practice is great. I do live in close proximity to others however, so most of the practice is…[Read more]

Hi, Oliver.
Good question. All three are a valuable use of time!
Based on your experience level, I would recommend trying to include a little technique work every time you have a practice session. If you have a 30 minute time frame to practice in, I’d probably start out on 10-15 minutes of technique/exercise work on whatever particular…[Read more]

Hi everyone.
New here and new to the fiddle. Been playing for a month and feel like I’m progressing nicely. I would like to ask if anyone can give some advice as how to structure a practice session. Would it be a better use of my time dedicating a whole session to, say, technique, or break it up between, say, technique, learning new songs and…[Read more] -

It’s funny, lots of folks I know in NJ/PA (and New England) play Maison de glace but don’t know Le printemps. Guess they don’t have all of Andre’s albums!

Hi, Rorylaney.
Andre isn’t on the site very often, but I’ll pass your comments onto him. I’d love to get him back in the studio…maybe later next year. We’ll be pulling together a request list at that time, and I’ll make sure this tune is on the list.
All the best!!

Hi Andre,
I just wanted to say I’m excited to see you are going to be on fiddlevideo.com. I’m a big fan and so happy to be able to learn from you, in addition to all the other amazing fiddlers on this site. If you start taking requests, I would love love love to see you do a tutorial on Maison de Glace/Le Printemps. It is a great tune and you pla…[Read more] -

I ended up with a GX. I was able to trial the NX and the GX for a week and got to try the SX for a few minutes. I didn’t like the weight balance (I felt like it was too close to my hand) of the SX – though some people might like the way it felt. I’m still not sure the GX was worth the price jump up from the NX but I do enjoy the light and…[Read more]

Hi Casey. Looping appears not to be available for the Brenda Stubbert’s Reel performance video. I can access it for all the other videos, I think. Possible to add? Still loving the site, totally obsessed (in a good way) with the Valse du Chef de Gare…
Thanks for all your hard work.

Thank you, Fiddle Video, for bringing Andre Burnet and his Quebecois style to this website! I am excited beyond belief! I have often wondered if I could ever learn the foot stepping part along with the fiddle playing ever since I saw a Quebecois group in concert years ago. This is a great opportunity to find out.
I am looking forward to seeing…[Read more]

They definitely get better the more they are played. I got a violin off ebay that hadn’t been played since the 40’s at least. no strings or tailpiece or even a nut. I got it fixed and it was just ok. I was disappointed but I kept it. I’ve been playing it for several years now and people have complimented on its tone. It has changed a great…[Read more]
