Thanks for the tip. I’ll check out a mandolin chord chart book. but in the meantime, I’ll keep going at it one measure at a time, one double stop at a time. If it was easy it wouldn’t be as rewarding right?

Hi Bondi, I know Casey will chime in with you on this but I can say that double stops are a lot of fun and they really make the fiddle ring. Casey has some beautiful double stops in Lovers Waltz so I won’t try to answer your questions on that. But one thing I’ve learned over the years is when starting to learn double stops begin by using the open…[Read more]

I’ve been playing violin for 1 1/2 years now and I’m now trying to learn “Double stops” I have to say it’s challenging. While I was again, watching your advanced video on “Lovers’ Waltz” and trying to figure out the double stops you were explaining. I went back to see if you had any video lessons teaching that. I couldn’t find a video on it. Is…[Read more]

Hi Shannon! RE: “bumper-less” files, the MP3 downloads on this site are just the tune. I also use a program called AnyTune, download Fiddlevideo tracks from iTunes into that, and it allows me to loop and/or slow down sections I am working on. Hope this helps!

Thanks Casey!
Any possibility of a PDF? Here’s instructions on how: http://www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/Finale2012Win/Content/Finale/Adobe_PDF_documents1.htm
I would love for Limerock and I don’t love nobody, whatever format 🙂
Thank you, Casey!

Hey again, Rosie. That is, indeed, a song I used to love to play. I’d forgotten how it went! If Patti doesn’t choose this tune in March when we record, I’ll teach it myself. It’s a great tune, just waiting for a bunch of double stops, right??
Thanks for the suggestions.
Keep them coming, folks!

Hi, Rosie. Thanks for the suggestions…I’ll get them to Patti before we make final selections.
Can you post a link to Black Velvet Waltz? I’m wondering if it might be the same as “Velvet Waltz”, which I use to play years ago.

Rosie replied to the topic in the forum Activity 9 years, 3 months ago
Hi Casey,
I’d love to learn Black Velvet Waltz, Bluebell Waltz and Eva’s Waltz. It would be really great if Patti could teach at least one of these.
Thanks,

Yes, it does; thanks a lot.
I’ll go on with my little impressionistic butterfly project, then 😉

Hi, Ulla. I think you should be fine for your purposes – unless you plan to monetize your recordings, my understanding is that you can record any song you wish for personal purposes.
It just becomes an issue when you would like to sell a copy of your performance. Hope that helps!

Hi, Ulla. It looks like that format is an option for Finale, the program I use to create sheet music. At this point, I’m not in a position to export all sheet music and embed them in each lesson…however, I’ll be happy to email files to any member who wishes for select sheet music files. Post your requests here, or just email the contact email…[Read more]

Perhaps better if you could export it as MusicXML; this is a general format that can be read by many programs, including the excellent, free music notation program “MuseScore”, and DAWs such as “Cubase”, which I happen to use 🙂

I hope so 🙂 Not because I don’t like Hanneke Cassel’s own compositions (I really do!), but because traditional tunes are not protected by copyright!
And by the way, I have a question about copyright; I have posted it under “Unfiddling”

I assume that all tunes on this site that have a composer are protected by copyright, isn’t it so?
And that traditional tunes are not.
But how about “The Butterfly”; the sheet music says “attributed to Tommy Potts”, so is it his tune, and is it protected by copyright?
The reason I ask is that I like to make small arrangements of tunes and…[Read more]
