How often do you have to change those? Are they pretty resilient?

That fiddle I bought had a set of Infelds, not sure which version. Even though they were pretty old.. I kinda liked the way they sounded.

I put a set of Helicores from another instrument, and they were way way too bright.. its a pretty loud fiddle.
    Obligato’s warm it up…[Read more]

  • To be honest I don’t know much about what the SW has to offer..
Most of my experience has been around Idaho, Montana etc. I don’t really know any accompanists down here, so that would be an issue. I’d probably like to go there just to listen and check them out maybe.

Probably not going to do anything until I move back north, and I think most of…[Read more]

  • I don’t plan on going to Weiser anytime soon.
Mostly just smaller satellite contests, maybe state. That’s a big maybe.

I’m not planning on going to weird.. but you know. Sometimes you gotta fight the power 😉

Also, winning isn’t really on my bucket list. The sooner I get cut, the sooner I can jam and drink beer 😀

  • I’ve been putting together kind of a list, as I try to remember songs.
I think I have 7 or so pretty solid contest rounds.

But since I am a non-conformist jerk.. I wanted to put together a set thats a little outside the box.
Or maybe at least to the side of the box. Just not smack dab in the middle of the box.

    I picked a couple of songs,…[Read more]

  • I recently started to use those very same E strings, and I really like them. They are really sweet and don’t squawk at you if your aren’t exactly on point.

I will definately consider having Bob do the pegs, maybe even on a couple fiddles. Right now we are pretty focused on getting the wife up to Montana, so maybe towards the end of the summer…[Read more]

  • Hey Diane.
I met with him on Saturday to try the violin. Really nice quirky little Italian guy. Retired from the LV Symphony, the guy could really play. Super nice guy though.. you could tell he really loved playing, and really loves his fiddles. Once he started he played for almost 10 minutes.. dude just got lost in it.

    Jenny said I had…[Read more]

  • I was just at a restaurant when I saw your post… I was thinking “Wait a minute.. which fiddle are we talking about? The Ebay Barnabetti, the cursed Barnabetti or the Marconcini?”

So many etti’s and ini’s I get myself turned around.
Tomorrow I’m going to try the Macaroni.

My wife is coming with me.. I kinda hope I hate it. Or else it might…[Read more]

  • Hey Diane.
I’ve got an appointment to try out the Marconcini on Saturday.
We are supposed to be packing (wife got the job in Bozeman, MT) but I keep having these little “side projects”. She said, “I thought we weren’t going to anymore fiddle stores after the Barnabetti fiasco of 2016”

I figure while we are in Henderson, we may as well also…[Read more]

  • Thanks Diane.
I’ve pretty much decided that are two classifications of fiddles out in the wild. “Factory Fiddles with fancy names” and “Total BS”. Anything I can afford likely falls into one of those two categories, mostly like the latter lol.

I also found another local dude with this listing:…[Read more]

  • What did I do? I think I just made a thread is all 🙂

That’s pretty cool though.. downside to something like that is that the sound will get into your head. It will infect you and nothing else will suffice *evil laugh*

Pretty cool to find something legit these days.. Will be waiting for updates.

  • Thought I’d just start a new thread, so the other one doesn’t get too long.
SInce, I have to pace myself with playing.. as some carpal tunnel/tendonitis has reared its ugly head >:( Apparently my new hobby is digging around for stuff.

Whilst digging around on Ebay looking for names to research.. I came across…[Read more]

  • Some of those strumming patterns are insane. The boom-thunk is about the limit of my ability. I was about to learn “Waiting for the Dawn”, as its become one of my favorite songs… I thought “Well, Waffle.. you’d better learn the guitar part so you can teach Mom et. al. back home”.

Took all of two seconds and I was like “Nope”

    I can’t wrap my…[Read more]

  • I saw that buyout go up. I messaged him a few times asking some questions during the last 10 minutes of the auction and then I let it run down. I was hoping it would come back up lower.. but I think he took it as “ooh someone is interested.. lets jack the price!”

EDIT: Im curious what another barnabetti sounds like compared to the one I played.…[Read more]

  • Thanks Bob, that’s a lot of intricate knowledge there. I also hadn’t seen any labels that listed “Milano” either, a few murmurs on some forums maybe but nothing specific one way or the other.

Just so we are clear, don’t go out and buy something if I post it. I don’t plan to give anyone money that I don’t know is reputable. Most of this is…[Read more]

  • Thanks for that. I will try to see if I can get that to work for me.

And you are totally right about playing the fiddle. Something can sound awesome and not feel right and vice versa. Its a very personal thing. Kinda like driving a car.. Online is definately a gamble.. and living in Las Vegas, Ive learned to never risk more than you can…[Read more]
