I’m patiently waiting for Megans tunes. I want to learn Huckleberry Hornpipe from Byron Berline and fifty years Ago waltz and Old South Waltz. Can we speed up the production of the backups…please, I’ve been waiting since July and I’m getting Old…68′.

      Thank You!

I’ve got Cincinnatti Rag, Gypsie Waltz and Cattle in the Cane, as well as Jeans Reel, Beaumont Rag, and Tugboat since I joined up to playing speed. I love the sight…Mark

I have a question. How do you memorize a tune. I can read music, but the music that I play doesn’t stick in my head. I will play the tune onto a recorder and then learn it note to note to get it in my head. But the best contest fiddlers have so many tunes memorized, which first had to be technically worked out before getting memorized. I’m so envious of you and Casey, the Clarridges, Natalie and Leahy to name a few, but there must be a method you great fiddlers practice to cover so much ground in so short a time, relatively. But I’m getting worried about my age now, and want to stuff as many tunes into my memory as possible, and then have some time to play them. My goal is to learn 3 sets as played in a contest and have them to playing level in a year. I claim I was first in Weiser in 93′, because I was the very first fiddler of the contest at 8:00AM Monday morning., LOL. But I’ve never made the first cut and always played my best three tune in my first round (only round), but I’ve always felt I was a participant and supporter of the contest. Someone has to be last, although I did reach 21st one year and missed the cut by 14 points. I love all of you contest fiddlers, because I know how hard you all have worked to be tops, but Megan you’ve always been my fiddle hero.

I hope Megan comes soon. I’m looking forward to her tunes. I have a couple of requests, Wyatt’s Waltz and Fifty Years Ago Waltz. And I’ve memorized Casey’s Beaumont Rag and working on Tugboat, then Cane Rag. I’m recovering from a broken neck and as I lose weight I can get my elbow under to reach the fourth finger drone on G-string for tunes in G.

Thanks, I’m starting to have fun again fiddling, I’m hoping to get tunes I used to know back into my 68 year-old head and this site is very inspiring.

I joined on July 5th after seeing her name advertised on youtube with you and I’m looking forward to her lessons. She is my fiddle hero and I followed her to Weiser.

I signed up today, July 5th, 2021. I consider myself an intermediate fiddlers playing tuned mostly from Fake Books. I want to go the next level. I tried contest fiddling in the past and enjoyed what can be done. Megan Lynch Chowning is one of my favorite fiddlers. So, I want to know how to begin here. Should I started at the first tune or pick the first from each teacher. I like the Texas Style contest tunes, but due to injuries, I’m not sure I’ll able to go to contests again, but I want to have fun and enjoyment here at home. Most of my neighbors enjoy my fiddling, but my next door neighbor hates my fiddling and is quick to ask (tell) me to shut up. So, I practice in my garage. I know my repetition gets on my wife’s nerves sometimes, but she is quick to ask me to play a tune when someone comes over. I also have many albums and tapes from Natalie MacMaster and Leahy, Mark O’Connor and or course Megan. So how to start here? I started Beaumont Rag today. I like Casey’s style of teaching so here we go.
