Roland, this may belong under the “Bow” forum heading, but since bow weight was brought up here, I thought it might be okay to address bow differences in bow weights, heavy vs. light bows.
Diane G is right about the viola needing a heavier bow. It may help some folks to put some numbers with what is considered ‘heavy’ and ‘light’. For bows…[Read more]

Hi DianeG, Thats a good question for our forum. Its easier than you think and intuitive too. Basically play the tune to the point you want to start and click on the looper at the start, play the passage you want to practice and then click again at the stopping point. Then hit play to repeat the loop till your done. Speed goes up or down to one…[Read more]

Hi Casey or Roland….new to the website and techno challenged…where on the site is there some information on using the loop feature? How do I activate it? At the video? Kind of lost on all this…but know it could be a real great thing for me to try on some of the tunes I would like to learn from Hanneke’s videos
Thanks in advance.

Hi Diane G, Thanks for the additional info for Octave Violin setups. Once I get it strung up I will let you know what it sounds like. I didn’t realize one would need a heavier bow with extra arm weight & pressure to play them but now that I think about it it makes sense. The 3/4 Viola I acquired looks to have a good set up on it with a nicely…[Read more]

Hi Roland….sorry I have not answered your post. Boy,have I missed out on some good “stuff” here. Ulla, thanks for that link too…we are going to explore that one! To answer your questions regarding strings for a 14 inch viola (I play a 15 inch one) that poses a good question. You mention two Violin Octave string sets..one cheap and one exp…[Read more]

Hi, John. You might try a Sony SRS-X3 or a Bose Bluetooth speaker. We have the Sony and it does well. Of course, Bose is a great name in this space as well.
Let me know if you need guitar track downloads.

Hi John W, Good question? I don’t have a specific recommendation for you for amps but for getting to the Blue Tooth or Wireless platform here is an idea for you. I’m not sure what kind of a pick up you’re using on the guitar, but a good option I use on my Mandolin is a Fishman Bridge Pick up installed with the 1/4 jack connection at the end…[Read more]

I have started looking into portable mini battery powered amps for the purpose of playing the guitar backing tracks. I intend to play the tracks from a playlist on my cell phone. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Ive been looking at the roland mobile cube or something like that. It would be even better if it had some kind of bluetooth connection. -
