Hey folks. I’m happy to announce that the great Canadian fiddler, Patti Kusturok, has agreed to join the Fiddlevideo project! She will be in-studio in March of 2016, and now is the time to get your lesson requests in. We’ve already had one request, but there is plenty of room for more suggestions at this time.

Excellent, DKevens. I’m happy to tell you that there will be no problem in recording at least the first tune….Guess who we have scheduled for a studio session in March?? That’s right – the great Patti Kusturok. I will ensure that it makes the list of songs to record. So you can look forward to this tune in that lesson set. How’s that for a…[Read more]

Hi, Sal. That’s a good idea. I’ll take a look at the possibility of embedding a download link to each guitar track. In the mean time, I’ve sent you an email to follow up on what tracks you’re looking for. Thanks!

Any chance we could get downloadable guitar tracks? Then we could loop them and practice endlessly… This is a great site, I didn’t know Texas style was so much fun! Thanks

Ahhh…you’ve earned the stiff joints…it’s just about finding the right tools to get you limbered up and enjoying the music you create! Fiddling can be a ton of fun, believe me. Anything that takes a bunch of work to get better at makes sucess that much sweeter!

Thanks Casey, good advice and yes, I’ll check out tutorials you mention. Had to Google Django Reinhardt, but what an inspiration! And me, I think I’ll stop whining about my stiff joints now…

Hi, David, and thanks for the suggestions. I have a running list of song requests, and I’ll add these to the mix to check out before my next session. I’m always a big fan of waltzes!! Looking forward to hearing these ones. Do you have any links you can post for us to hear?

Hi again, CinqAns. I believe that Hanneke mentioned the possibility of recording Leanne MacLean’s Revenge the last time she was in-studio. She’s scheduled to be back to record a new set of lessons this April. I’ll send her your request and we’ll see what ends up on film…
Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi, there CinqAns. I’ve had the same thought regarding Perlman. It’s amazing what those large fingers can pull out of the instrument. And then you have folks like Django Reinhardt who manage to overcome greater challenges…
My advice would be to practice ascending/descending trills over major scales with a metronome. Work up in speed as you…[Read more]

I wonder if anyone has advice for a beginning player trying to manage the fingerboard with plus-sized hands. I’m picking up the fiddle (with no prior string experience). All the recommendations in books and online seem to be geared toward dainty ladies and pre-schoolers. Doesn’t work well for me, but if Itzhak Perlman and Kevin Burke can do it…[Read more]

Hello Folks, new subscriber and new topic here. I’m a 56-year old beginning fiddler and always looking for interesting tunes to keep me practicing. Two that have struck me recently are Patana Sunset by Frigg, and Leanne MacLean’s Revenge by Hanneke. If you have any room in your production schedule I’d vote for them. Patana has some…[Read more]

HI David, Roland White Forum Moderator chiming in on your request for 2 new tunes. Casey will have to chime in on that as he receives quite a few and has to juggle his studio time with priority items first But I will say I took a moment to listen to them on YouTube and they are beautiful tunes. I was able to find several artists playing them…[Read more]

Hi there, Sherlock. If I’m looking at the same part of the performance video as you (about :48 seconds in), I’m linking 5 notes together on an upbow. That is if you count the first finger slide down from the F# to the E as three distinct notes.
So the 5 upbow notes I’m playing are as follows:
E (fourth finger on the A string)
E (open)
F#…[Read more] - Load More
