Good question Mike, and follow-up Roland. I agree that it makes a difference what style you are most into…And yes, Hanneke has some really good advice when it comes to the Scottish GNs.

Here is a great performance by Casey Driessen recorded in 2011. One of my favs, Working on a Building. Casey has perfected a bow chucking technique and you get a good example here. And he rips some sweet licks on his 5-string. Figured this was a good tune to share to get the conversation started…

I’ll put my two cents in…I used a Kun rest for years and was pretty happy with it. However, a great fiddle player named Gary Mackey turned me on to Wolfe rests. I’ve used the Forte Secondo rest for the last 15 years or so. I find that it opens up the vibrations on the back of the instrument and really allows my fiddles to project better than…[Read more]
