Hi Kim,
This site will certainly stretch you.
You might try fiddlehangout.org. There is very little learning opportunity there.
However, there is decent networking opportunity. You can use it to to find out what’s happening in areas of the States you might be visiting.
People often post “I’m going to be in XXX on his date, any jams?” Usually…[Read more] -

I’m from Newfoundland, Canada. Playing for about 6 years. Continuously looking for opportunity to practice and learn. Currently in central Florida, taking advantage of music festivals, camps, bluegrass, old time, and snowbird jams. Looking forward to this fiddlevideo platform to stretch my skill level.

Ansgar,
What you are doing with viola is so cool. I’m envious of every classically trained musician I’ve ever met.
I’m not that disciplined.
At a bluegrass jam I attend we have a viola player who plays with the community symphony.
When she attends the jams she plays a five string violin. So she has both a viola and violin? I guess.
She has m…[Read more] -

Hi George,
thanks for your answer.
I am a classical musician in freetime but I play popular music and german filmmusic from the 20s to the 60s as well.
Here I am working on techniques for bluegrass on my viola. I think, the sound of the viola matches to bluegrass because it has a warm sound. Sometimes it is difficult to put the lessons for violin…[Read more] -

Guillaume,
I saw Andre perform at Wintergrass in Seattle earlier this year.
While, the videos on Fiddlevideo highlight his talents, I was completely blown away to see him live.
He really has tremendous rythemic skills and sings wonderfully and of course he is a wonderful fiddler. The board he used looked like a piece of plywood with a frame to…[Read more]

I’m from Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. I’m working on bluegrass, Texas style, and of course Quebec fiddling, trying to play as good as my grandfather used to play (which is not an easy task!)

HI! Would it be possible to know what kind of setup André Brunet is using to get his consistent sound with footwork? Looks like some kind of particles board with a microphone. Is there an empty space underneath the top layer? Any kind on cushion or anti slip system of some sort?
Thank you very much!

Welcome Deborah and Patti. I’m just making the blind assumption you are new here. Forgive me if I’m wrong.
Portland is one of my favorite cities. I lived in Silverton for many years.
Patti, it seems you are kind of near the heart of bluegrass music in the Carolinas. I’d love to visit that area.

I’m in Western North Carolina! Hello all you fiddlers. I’m working on my Bluegrass primarily but do play in a Celtic band as well.

I did enjoy especially when it was over. 😀
I’ve been giving thought to trying again after your encouragement. I very much enjoyed meeting the other fiddlers and preparing gave me a goal to work towards.
When I saw that you had responded to my forum post, for a fleeting moment I was worried you might have bern looking for royalties for playing…[Read more]

Hi, Richfiddle. I see George has already mentioned the Pageflip. Thx, George!
That thread is here if you want more details (Antonvon).
I’ll look into the Vidami but am hesitant to add another layer of tech at this point.

Well done, Roger! That’s quite the tune to tackle, especially at a contest. I hope you keep competing if you enjoyed the experience, sir.

Thanks for the reply. Vidami does work with Youtube and your content there but as an annual member of your site most of the actual lessons are not on Youtube. When I purchased the pedal they supplied a list of sites that are compatable with their pedal. It appears there is some kind of agreement with those sites that want compatability…[Read more]
