Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep within the time limits in a fiddle contest. I am playing Gardenia’s Waltz for the Waltz portion but only have about 2 minutes 15 seconds to play it because each of my other songs take right at 2 minutes to play. Total play time is 6 minutes. Right now the Waltz is taking about 3 minutes to play. I don’t think just playing it faster is a good idea, but would cutting off the last section, although it is a repeat of the first, be detrimental to the song? Anyone? Thanks!

      Hi, Tndel.

Are you playing the waltz twice through? If so, you might cut to once through, ending on the A part (ABA). I’m envious that you get 6 minutes to play…the majority of the western US contests limit you to 4 minutes, which really results in some strange versions/chopped pieces. I understand that a limit probably helps with scheduling rounds and fairness and all…but I think it also is an unnatural constraint on the performance/performer…

Best of luck on your contest!!
