It’s surprising that there is rarely any activity on the forum. Understandable during the summer when weather is good and folks are busy. But the last entry was 2 months ago.
Anyone out there go to any fiddle camps, festivals? Learn any new tunes. How about the instructors? Anything exciting happening? Do any of you have any gigs in the Charleston SC area. I’d enjoy seeing you perform.
I’ve been attending a beginners Irish trad session which is giving me the opportunitu to try out ornamentation that have been taught here.
I bought a beat up fiddle in an antique shop. Thought I’d try to fix it up and give it to a child that can’t afford one. Only cost me $40, so if I screw it up I’m not out much.
There was an effort to get instruments to musicians in North Carolina who lost everything in the flooding last year. Don’t know about you, but if I lost my instruments, I’d probably lose my spirit too.
So Fiddlers, what’s happening out there?

I’m in Mexico at the moment. Beautiful by the Pacific. Nice and warm.
However, I wasn’t able to bring an instrument…reel bummer.
Roger, you are correct, this forum does not get too much traffic
Mexico sounds good. Any fiddle scene there?
I’m thinking of just adding some comment once a week. Maybe that will help to stir others to contribute. So here goes:
Last May, I went to a house concert of Hanneke Cassel that was hosted by friends. The concert was in St. Augustine, Florida. I live near Charleston, South Carolina. So the drive to the show was about 5 hours. But, the concert was worth the drive. To see someone like Hanneke in a setting with only 40 people or so, is almost a spiritual experience. And then, to be able to talk with her was a joy. We even laughed a little about the Old Dangerfield performance video by Casey. It seems that Casey was laughing with/at Peter during the filming. Seems like they were having a good time.
So, I have a question for the community. Has anyone here ever hosted a house concert? I’ve been thinking about hosting one and I’m interested in hearing about the experience. Also, from the instructors, if you were offered a house concert, what would you expect from the host?
