Hi Casey. Looping appears not to be available for the Brenda Stubbert’s Reel performance video. I can access it for all the other videos, I think. Possible to add? Still loving the site, totally obsessed (in a good way) with the Valse du Chef de Gare…
Thanks for all your hard work.

Thank you, Fiddle Video, for bringing Andre Burnet and his Quebecois style to this website! I am excited beyond belief! I have often wondered if I could ever learn the foot stepping part along with the fiddle playing ever since I saw a Quebecois group in concert years ago. This is a great opportunity to find out.
I am looking forward to seeing…[Read more]

They definitely get better the more they are played. I got a violin off ebay that hadn’t been played since the 40’s at least. no strings or tailpiece or even a nut. I got it fixed and it was just ok. I was disappointed but I kept it. I’ve been playing it for several years now and people have complimented on its tone. It has changed a great…[Read more]

It occurred to me a while back that after Andre’s lessons come on line that half the Celtic Fiddle Festival will be teaching on this site, and that ain’t bad at all! Cheers

Hi, Liz. Good thought. I could certainly pull together a series on that…but my plate is way too full with editing other instructors’ lessons to commit to recording that soon. I hope to be back in the studio myself sometime next year…and I’ll consider this topic, for sure!
Glad you are liking the site, and thanks for the kind words!!
Cheers!

Hi Casey and Baz. Loving this site too! Is there any advice hidden away on this site on fills and pads for accompanying songs? Nothing flashy or soloistic, just something along the lines of how an acoustic guitar would accompany a singer?
Thanks! Liz -

P.S. The variety of styles is one of the reasons I decided to join you here. I’ve been looking for a good version of Whiskey Before Breakfast and yours caught my ear.

Hi Casey,
Hanneke has the right groove but if you are looking at rounding out the team with some Cape Bretoners Andrea Beaton and Kimberly Fraser (both have websites) are two I am aware of already in the teaching mode. Certainly Andrea – I took some group workshop lessons – can point you to others. You’ll need the piano track to really make it…[Read more]

Hi, Doug. Great tune! I checked this version out…
I’d like to add a Cape Breton fiddle instructor in the future…Natalie, of course, would be amazing, but I’m not sure of her interest level yet. Do you have any other suggestions for great Cape Breton fiddlers to reach out to in the future??
Good…[Read more]

I learned a version of Jean’s Reel a while back and had to try to figure out the embellishments from listening to it. Natalie MacMaster plays a great version on her album. Would love to clean it up and learn some of the embellishments and variations (like the B – Bflat in part 2/4). Definitely the version I heard has the Scottish / Cape Breton…[Read more]
